Google Expeditions Pioneer Program at PWS

Google Expeditions Pioneer Program will be visiting Peter Woodbury on Friday, April 8th. Google Expeditions is a new product that allows teachers to take their classes on virtual field trips, allowing teachers to bring abstract concepts to life and giving students a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom. Nothing replaces getting on a bus for a field trip, but Expeditions provides an unparalleled opportunity for supplemental learning.  A representative from Google will arrive on April 8th with all the supplies we need for our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders to participate in a curriculum related expedition of their classroom teacher's choosing. Be sure to follow our Facebook page , Twitter account , or Instagram account  to receive pictures as we progress through the day.

Online Report Cards

We are excited to announce that beginning this quarter, we will be publishing student report cards online in the PowerSchool Parent Access Portal.  As a district, we are continuously working to improve efficiency, reduce costs and provide more timely reporting to parents. For quarter 3, parents will receive a printed hard copy of the report card in addition to online access to the report card. The final quarter 4 report card will be published online only. You will notice that the report card format has changed. The new improved design has been simplified and you will be able to print a copy of the report card directly from the PowerSchool Parent Portal. If you do not already have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, we urge you to create one as soon as possible. If you already have an account, no further action is required. A letter will be sent home in the near future that provides the information needed to create your PowerSchool account and link your account to your child.

Homework Club/Smarter Balanced Testing

Smarter Balanced testing is a state mandated test all students in grades 3-8 take on the computers. Testing, at PWS, begins Thursday, March 17th and continues until the last class finishes on Tuesday, April 5th. It's important to note that not all classes will be testing every day during that time frame. There are a total of seven testing sessions that students partake in for English Language Arts and Math.  Every class has participated in an orientation session with their classroom teacher and the technology integration teacher, Mrs. Cassamassino. During this session they explored the tools available to then while testing as well as the various types of questions they'll encounter. Since third and fourth grade teachers will not be assigning much homework during these times, homework club is canceled for Thursday, March 17th; Tuesday, March 22nd; Thursday, March 24th; Tuesday, March 29th; Thursday, March 31st; and Tuesday, April 5th.

Order forms have gone home with students allowing you to purchase meal tickets and raffle tickets in advance.  Tickets for the Book Walk and Photo Booth will be sold the night of the event. Here are a couple examples from last year's photo booth. More information can be found on the order form by clicking here . All orders need to be in by Tuesday, March 22nd.

Jump Rope for Heart

IT TAKES HEART TO BE A HERO!    Our Jump Rope for Heart event kicked off this week in Physical Education class with a little video about a Heart Hero, Bran, who is 11 years old and was born with a heart condition called Pulmonary Atresia .  Thanks to the children who have raised donations for the American Heart Association in the past Bran was able to have surgery to help his heart.  This week in Physical Education class students discussed heart disease to aid their understanding of why they are raising money for the American Heart Association.  Collection envelopes are going home this week ( March 1st-4th)  and must be returned by  Friday, March 25 . But, online fundraising is easier and more efficient.  The students don't have to worry about handing in the money they raise.  Mrs. Ferenc has encouraged the students to make web pages by visiting  heart.org/jump  and search for Peter Woodbury School using city and state.  Students can join our school's team and set up th
