Duct Tape Mr. Mitchell!

Destination Imagination Fundraiser - Duct Tape Mr. Mitchell to the Wall!
As you know two of our DI teams are fundraising to help defray the cost of traveling to Knoxville, TN later this month. They have a very creative fundraising idea - for just $1, a student can buy a strip of duct tape to tape Mr. Mitchell to the wall. Teachers will be collecting the $1 and will write the student's name on a list to receive the strip of duct tape at a date TBD. Students may buy a maximum of 5 strips. Please help us make this a successful fundraiser for our teams. Collection will happen for one week starting, Monday, May 14th.

Author/Illustrator Aaron Becker Visits PWS

PWS is pleased to welcome author/illustrator Aaron Becker on Monday, May 16 courtesy of Gibson's Bookstore in Concord.  Mr. Becker will be sharing his new wordless book, A Stone for Sasha with the 3rd and 4th grade students. We have long loved his other wordless books: Journey, Quest, and Return and are excited to hear about the process of writing a wordless book.
"A wordless book?" you might ask. "Isn't that for much younger children? What is the point of a wordless book?"
Mr. Becker's sophistication and imagination are inspirational and a great reminder for any age, that thought can be represented in more than just words.  It is the reader's task to "read" the pages for detail and context, observing main characters, plot, setting, and dialog. Having read these books many times, there is always something new to be found in the story of every page.  Readers of all ages will find the meaning of these stories within the context of their own li…

Jump Rope for Heart Assembly 2018

Image
Every year Mrs. Ferenc, PWS PE teacher, puts together an amazing jump rope show as a culmination to the jump rope competition and fundraiser for the American Heart Association. This year was no different! From 4th grade students demonstrating their skills, to a surprise routine by Mrs. Stallone and her 2nd grade class, to the routine put together by some of our teachers.  It was so much fun and an awesome way to celebrate being heart healthy!  In addition, Peter Woodbury school surpassed its goal of raising $14,000 for the American Heart Association. Instead students at PWS raised $16,000. Way to go!!

Check out the folder of pictures and videos from today's assembly. 2018 Jump Rope Assembly

BHS National Art Honor Society students, Olivia and Asha, crafted these stunning wings from PWS student work. The PWS Art Club painted the large sheets of patterned papers, while many students in grades 1-4 created feathers after watching a video about street artist Kelsey Montague, who was the inspiration for this. Kaylee Raff created a sketch of wings which was the starting point for the larger wings. Come view some other amazing art work and take your picture with the wings at the PWS Art Show on Thursday, 4/19 (6pm-7:30pm) Post your pictures to social media with #sau25whatliftsyou

Jump Rope for Heart 2018

IT TAKES HEART TO BE A HERO!
The Jump Rope for Heart event kicked off this week in Physical Education class with a video about a Heart Hero, Camden, who is 8 years old and was born with a heart condition. Thanks to the kids who have raised donations for the American Heart Association in the past Camden was able to have surgery to help her heart.
This week in Physical Education class students have discussed heart disease to help students understand why they are raising money for the American Heart Association.  We also hosted the Hip Hoppin’ Hawks jump rope team who performed for us after discussing why we choose heart healthy habits to live healthy lives.
Collection envelopes are going home this week March 5th-9th and must be returned by Friday, March 30th.
Online fundraising is much easier and more efficient since students don't have to remember to hand in money. Mrs. Ferenc has encouraged the students to register online and sign up to choose a healthy heart challenge and ea…
