Annual Food Drive - 2018

2018 Peter Woodbury School Annual Food Drive November 26, 2018 Dear Parents, During this time of year we are increasingly aware of how fortunate we are to have good friends, loving families, a place to call home, and food to eat. Unfortunately, we know that so many in our community are not as fortunate, and we feel that there is something we can do to help. Since we know that food banks are always in need of food, Peter Woodbury is holding a food drive for the New Hampshire Food Bank, as well as the Bedford Community Food Pantry. This year, we will continue to partner with the Bedford Community Food Pantry in providing food for their School Lunch+ program.  This provides backpacks on Fridays with food for students over the weekend. Every other month, our school will collect one particular item for this program.  This month, we are collecting single serving juice bottles (no glass please). ( Bedford Community Food Pantry- School Lunch+ ) Students can start bringing in

2018 PWS Halloween Parade

We are looking forward to our annual Halloween Parade coming up this Wednesday, October 31. Our morning kindergarteners will have a parade through the school hallways at 10:15. If your morning kindergartener attends afternoon K-Plus, they will also participate in the afternoon parade.  Our afternoon parade will begin at 1:30. Parents who come to watch the parade (all are welcome) should watch from outside. Cones will be set up so you know where to stand. The student parade will exit the school at the Kindergarten wing doors, proceed down the driveway by the gardens, continue onto the blacktop area, and finally re-enter the school through the front doors. We are looking forward to this event and all the fun and creative costumes we will see.

Updated 10.26.18 Witch Way Fun Run 2018

Image
Update on October 26, 2018 It looks like the Wicked Witch of the West is playing a cruel trick on us with the weather for the Lurgio Witch Way Fun Run on Saturday, October 27th. Instead of a tornado, we are getting a Nor'easter. In keeping with our theme of more FUN, we have decided to move our fundraiser indoors, which means we have been able to add more games and activities for the whole family to enjoy. While we won’t be able to trick or trot down County Road, we will be taking our bibbed participants through the school to visit our Halloween-themed pit stops on a journey that culminates in the gymnasium and dining hall with the fun activities of our Witch Way Family Fun Fest. In addition to the costume contest and raffles prizes, we will also have Halloween-themed crafts, inflatable bounce houses, face painting, pumpkin decorating, and so much more! Schedule of Events: 9:30-10:30 Registration and bib/t-shirt pickup (Media Center) 9:30-11:00 Halloween-themed Pit

Change to Open House

Peter Woodbury's Open House is on Thursday, September 20th. This year, Mrs. Daley and Mr. Mitchell are asking to meet with parents in the multi-purpose room from 6:15pm-6:45pm. It is the hope that this time together will provide you some greater insight into our school and maintain the open lines of communication we all value so much.  Any students who attend PWS may stay with their classroom teacher during this time frame (6:15-6:45). Any other children should stay with their parents in the multi-purpose room.  Parents and students in grades K-2 can visit their classroom and teacher anytime between 5:30pm-6:15pm (prior to meeting with the principals). Community School Yard

This is our tenth year anniversary of the PWS Community School Yard! We will be working hard to prepare for new garden beds and plantings around the school property. School Yard Spruce UP Our Daly Garden and school yard are in need of an update.  The beds will be reconfigured in the spring in honor of our anniversary, the cottage needs to be painted, loam needs to be moved, shrubs planted, and other projects. If you have a tractor or BobCat that could assist in the heavy lifting and movement of loam it would be appreciated. Please plan to join us  Sunday, October 14  for a day of community!   The school yard was created through private funding and grants, and the wonderful collaboration of teachers, parents, and community members.  It is the only School Yard of its kind in New England. We look forward to your help in sustaining it. Watch for more information regarding times. Please contact Mrs. Beltramo ( beltramom@sau25.net ) if can help with equipment or if you have a

2018-2019 Schoolyard Expectations

Image
We are off to a great first day for the 2018-2019 school year. Students are provided with a variety of choices when they are on the schoolyard during recess times. Each year the classroom teachers, as well as Mrs. Ferenc, remind students of the expectations for each area and piece of equipment. This ensures the materials are used appropriately and students are able to enjoy their outside time safely. Check out the image below if you're interested in learning what language is being used with your child or seeing what some of the more structured choices are. Of course students are also encouraged to play in the field area.

2018 Start of the School Year Info

For those new to Peter Woodbury we'd like to welcome you to our school community. For those returning, we look forward to seeing you again! The 2018-2019 school year starts on Tuesday, August 28th. School hours are 8:00am-2:20pm. The bell rings for students to enter the building from morning recess at 7:55am. Please take a minute to revisit or familiarize yourself with our arrival and dismissal procedures .  Bus routes are available and can be found on the district website . All children play in the schoolyard, weather permitting, from 7:30-7:55am. At 7:55am students line up by class and enter the building to begin the day. Every teacher in the building is outside in the morning the first week or so of school to help greet each child and assist them with finding their line and answer their questions.

2018 Beginning of Year InfoSnap Process

On August 3rd, everyone received an email from Bedford SD Registration asking for the Infosnap process to be completed. Approximately half of our students do not have this filled out. We urge you to complete this prior to the first day of school. By completing this process you are ensuring the school has updated contact, emergency and medical information for your child(ren). It also lets us know if your child can be photographed for the yearbook, for the classroom, if your child's work can be hung on the walls or published online, etc. In addition it allows your child(ren) to use the technology tools available to them and their teachers.

Duct Tape Mr. Mitchell!

Destination Imagination Fundraiser - Duct Tape Mr. Mitchell to the Wall! Collection will happen for one week starting, Monday, May 14th.

Author/Illustrator Aaron Becker Visits PWS

PWS is pleased to welcome author/illustrator Aaron Becker on  Monday, May 16  courtesy of Gibson's Bookstore in Concord.  Mr. Becker will be sharing his new wordless book,  A Stone for Sasha  with the 3rd and 4th grade students. We have long loved his other wordless books: Journey, Quest, and Return and are excited to hear about the process of writing a wordless book. "A wordless book?" you might ask. "Isn't that for much younger children? What is the point of a wordless book?" Mr. Becker's sophistication and imagination are inspirational and a great reminder for any age, that thought can be represented in more than just words.  It is the reader's task to "read" the pages for detail and context, observing main characters, plot, setting, and dialog. Having read these books many times, there is always something new to be found in the story of every page.  Readers of all ages will find the meaning of these stories within the context of
